Researchers... what?
Rothaim is not simply an ordinary cycling application. The app was spearheaded by Irish university researchers who are interested to learn more about how we as cyclists use the roads. By anonymously sharing our trips, along with the reasons for our journeys and choice of routes we can help support cycling research which is working towards improving cyclist safety.
Two things about about GPS
1. Global Positioning System (or GPS) is used to track your location while cycling. It involves reading messages from satellites. In any mobile device this will impact on the battery. That said, Rothaim has been designed with this in mind and tries to minimise battery usage.
Just keep an eye on your power and you should be fine. Oh, and maybe pack a charger.
2. GPS can take some time to get a location fix. Being connected to the internet usually results in a faster first fix. Not a whole lot can be done about this as it depends on where the GPS satellites orbiting the Earth are at any time.
Something interesting: Rothaim is Irish for "I Cycle".
